OK - I had occasion to reply to an email from a friend with a .jpg picture attached. I received it fine, but in replying, unawares that the jpg was also attached to the reply, the send replication failed due to failure to replicate in a reasonable time (< 1 second). After deleting the failed message from the mail router mailbox, then re-replied - deleting the attachment in the reply, it went fine.
